Where does the content on MySecureCyberspace come from?

How do I use MySecureCyberspace?
MySecureCyberspace is designed to give you customized Internet security information. Here are the main parts to the site:

  • Tools gives you a selection of software and Web applications to help you secure your cyberspace:
    • The Secure My Cyberspace section gives you cybersecurity help based on the activities you do online. For example, if you want to make sure you are browsing the Web safely from home, click on "Secure My Cyberspace" on the home page. On the next page, select "Web Browsing" and you will be taken to a page of advice about Web Browsing.
  • Encyclopedia lets you quickly look up security terms you are unfamiliar with or threats you are concerned about. Click on "Encyclopedia" and you will be taken to a page where you can either browse entries by category or search for a specific entry by letter.
  • Safe Spaces provides launching points for various types of visitors. The "Family Room" gives helpful information to parents and others who use the Internet at home. The "Classroom" provides information and resources for teachers and students. The "Game Room" points to fun activities for children or the young at heart. The "Office" provides information and resources for people with an interest in Internet and computer security for their business.
  • The Articles section includes in-depth "Feature" articles on the latest trends in cybersecurity. An area called "Case Studies" details realistic scenarios depicting cybersecurity threats and protective measures.
  • The Resources section gives you quick access to external sites that offer help with Internet security. You can customize this area to display your favorite sites (See How do I customize my resources?).

How do I create my personal home page?
You can customize MySecureCyberspace by creating a personal home page that provides you with exactly the information you want. To create a personal home page, you will first need to register (see "How do I register?"). Once you have registered, you can select the resources and news and alerts that you want to appear on your home page (see "How do I customize my resources?" and "How do I customize my news and alerts?").

How do I register?
Click on "Register" at the top of the home page. This will take you to the registration page. Choose a username and enter your email address. Then select a password (passwords must be at least eight characters long). When you are done, click the button labeled "Register." An email containing your username and home page address will be sent to you. Save this email for future reference.

How do I get to my personal home page?
The URL that you receive in your registration email is the address of your personal home page. Bookmark it (see your browser's Help section for more details) and use it when you want to see your customized home page. If you bookmark the page, you will not need to log in when you visit the site unless you want to change your settings.

How do I log in?
Click on "Log In" at the top of the home page. You will be asked for your username and password. Enter these and click "Login." You will then be taken to your personalized home page.

What if I forget my password?
If you forget your password, click on "Log In" at the top of the home page. Scroll down to "Forgot your password?" and enter your email address. Click "Recover." An email will be sent to you with a link for you to click on. The link will take you to a page with your new, temporary password in the pink box in the top right corner. Enter this password in the "Your current password" box. Then choose a new password and enter this in the "Pick a new password box." Click "Save changes."

How do I customize my news and alerts?
After you have logged in, click on "Customize" on your home page or "Edit" next to the News and Alerts heading (Note: you must register to use this feature. See "How do I register?" above). You will be taken to the "Manage Your Preferences" page. Scroll down to "Edit your subscriptions to news and alerts." Then check the boxes next to the Web sites you want to see alerts from on your home page. Click "Save Changes."

How do I customize my resources?
After you have logged in, click on "Customize" on your home page or "Edit" next to the Resources heading (Note: you must register to use this feature. See "How do I register?" above). You will be taken to the "Manage Your Preferences" page. Scroll down to "Edit your quick links to resources." Then check the boxes next to the resources you want to see on your home page.

How do I get alerts for my cell phone or PDA?
After you have logged in, click on "Customize" on your home page (Note: you must register to use this feature. See "How do I register?" above). You will be taken to the "Manage Your Preferences" page. Click on "Configure your mobile-device alerts" in the pink box. In the list, find the manufacturer and model for your devices and check the box next to each one. Click "Save changes." You will receive an email whenever there is a security alert for that device.

How do I print a page off the site?
In your browser, go to File > Print. A printer-friendly version of the page will be printed.
